This recipe takes about half the time as my original tomato sauce recipe, making it quick and easy for those weeknight meals! My original sauce recipe is more involved, and everything is truly from scratch in the traditional Italian style. This new and improved tomato sauce is just as flavorful, but able to save time by using jarred crushed tomatoes. I use the Jovial brand as they have no added coloring, flavoring, or sugars. You can use canned tomatoes or tomato juice according to Breaking the Vicious Cycle. Just be sure that the only addition to tomato is salt. This sauce is rather chunky, which is how I like it especially for pizza and spaghetti squash. However, if you desire a smoother sauce, start with tomato juice, or simply blend the sauce in your high-speed blender after cooking.Â
