Greek Chicken Burgers

This Greek seasoning brings the essence of Greece to you! The combination of warm baking spices and herbs like marjoram, dill, and oregano make quite the tasty combo! Although maybe trying to imagine it is difficult. Just trust me on this one, once you taste this seasoning you will want to put it on everything! I like to quadruple the spice portion of this recipe to make larger batches and store the dried spices up ahead in a small glass airtight jar in the pantry. Having it already made makes these burgers a cinch!

Have frozen ground turkey instead of chicken? No problem! You can substitute out the ground chicken for another meat. Turkey, beef, venison, bison, or pork will go well with these seasonings and the tzatziki aioli. The ‘lighter’ meats like chicken and turkey provide more of a neutral background for the Greek flavors to really shine though so I prefer them. That being said, you can still taste the seasoning through the ‘heavier’ meats like beef and bison, the flavors just won’t shine through quite as bright.

Ingredients:

1 Lb. ground chicken

2 Green onions

1 tsp. Dill, dried

2 tsp. Basil, dried

2 tsp. Oregano, dried

1 tsp. Parsley, dried

1 tsp. Marjoram, dried

½ tsp. Thyme, dried

¼ tsp. Cinnamon

¼ tsp. Nutmeg

2 Cloves garlic, minced

Salt, TT

Black pepper, TT

      Method Of Prep:

  1. Gather and prep ingredients. Preheat outdoor grill, or indoor grill pan over medium high heat.
  2. In a small bowl mix the dill, basil, oregano, parsley, thyme, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Set aside.
  3. In a medium bowl add ground chicken, garlic, green onion, salt, pepper, and spice mixture.
  4. Mix to evenly incorporate all the ingredients into the burger meat.
  5. Make four patties, about four ounces each. If you find the mix is particularly wet, you can add a few tablespoons of almond flour. When shaping patties be sure to hold it in your hand and put one finger on top of the patty and one on the bottom. Gently apply pressure to form a small dip in the middle. This will ensure even cooking and prevent drying out by coming to temp sooner.
  6. Oil your grill with your oil of choice. I like to use avocado oil but any high smoke point oil is fine.
  7. Grill patties, about 4 minutes on each side. Since this is chicken, be sure to temp the burgers and ensure they come to 165°F.
  8. Remove from the grill, and serve. I like to serve these burgers on a lettuce bun with a slice of tomato and my Tzatziki Aioli.
