Easy mSCD Apple Crisp with Oat Topping

Old-Fashioned Apple Crisp with Oat Topping 🍎

Fall is starting to show up everywhere you look. The grocery stores and farmers markets are overflowing with different varieties of apples, winter squash is making its way back onto the shelves, and fall décor seems to have taken over just about every store.

It might still be hot here in the South, but that doesn’t mean we’re not ready for fall! 🍂

And in our house, one of the first signs of the season is our annual apple-picking trip. After turning some of this year’s haul into my SCD Instant Pot Apple Butter, I couldn’t think of a more perfect way to use the last of our hand-picked apples than an old-fashioned apple crisp.

Warm, cinnamon-spiced apples. A buttery, golden oat topping. And that smell that fills the entire kitchen while it bakes? It’s exactly the kind of dessert I want this time of year.

This recipe is also mSCD, using old-fashioned rolled oats, almond flour, honey, and a little potato starch to create that thick, saucy apple filling underneath the crisp topping.

So whether you still have apples left from an apple-picking adventure of your own or simply couldn’t resist a bag at the farmers market, let’s make the most of apple season, starting with a few more cozy favorites from my kitchen.

🍏 More Ways to Enjoy Apple Season

If you’ve got an abundance of apples right now too, I have plenty of recipes to help you put them to good use!

SCD Instant Pot Apple Butter — I made another batch of this with our apple-picking apples this year! Pressure cooking makes homemade apple butter so much easier, and it’s one of my favorite ways to preserve that concentrated fall apple flavor.

SCD Crock Pot Apple Cider — A free recipe and such a cozy one to have simmering away on a chilly fall day.

SCD Apple Cake — A soft, warmly spiced apple dessert when you’re in the mood for cake rather than a crisp.

SCD Homemade Applesauce — One of the simplest ways to use up a big batch of apples and something that’s always handy to have in the refrigerator.

SCD Apple Caramel Slices — For when you want those classic caramel-apple flavors in a fun little treat.

Whether you went apple picking yourself or simply couldn’t resist all the beautiful apple varieties showing up at the grocery store and farmers market, there are plenty of ways to make the most of apple season. 🍎
