Hot honey chicken is a Southern food trend that has taken the US by storm. And for good reason, sweet and spicy have been a long time flavor powerhouse and hot honey is no exception. Floral, sweet honey leads to tangy and spicy hot sauce. All this drizzled over crispy chicken thighs? You really can’t get much better than that if you ask me!
Now you can always adjust the level of spice to your preference. In my opinion I would give the hot honey a medium label if I was going to rate the spice. I also opt to use avocado oil here, because it has a much higher smoke point with the oven temperature. You could also swap the thighs for skin on chicken breast, just be sure to increase your initial cooking time and check the internal temperature before broiling.
I know I said it couldn’t get much better earlier, but did I mention this is a sheet tray recipe too? No cutting board, knives, pots, pans, or large mixing bowls required. And the cherry on top? It’s ready in 30 minutes. New weeknight family favorite, is that you?

Ingredients:
For the Chicken:
4 chicken thighs
1 Tbsp. avocado oil
2 tsp. paprika
1 tsp. chili powder
2 tsp. salt
½ tsp. black pepper
For the Hot Honey:
¼ cup honey
1 tsp. red pepper flakes
2 tsp.-1 Tbsp. hot sauce, no additives (I use tabasco)
Method Of Prep:
- Gather and prep ingredients. Preheat your oven to 425°F and line a sheet tray with foil.
- In a small bowl mix together your dry spices for the chicken, set aside.
- Place thighs on a sheet tray and rub with avocado oil. Season both sides with the spice mixture being sure to coat both sides.
- Place all four thighs skin up and bake for 20 minutes, or until internal temperature has reached 165°F.
- While baking, in a small bowl whisk together honey, red pepper flakes, and hot sauce, set aside.
- Once the chicken is cooked, turn the broiler on high and continue to bake for 2-3 minutes or until the skin is nice and crispy. Be sure to keep a close eye on it so it doesn’t burn.
- Remove from the oven and drizzle hot honey on top. Serve immediately and enjoy!
