Quick One Pan Seared Pork Chops with Apples, Onions, & Sage Butter

Apples and pork chops is a classic combination that has delighted taste buds for generations, and it has been one of my personal favorites since childhood. Sweet apples cooked to perfection, their natural sugars caramelizing beautifully alongside tender, golden-brown onions. These delectable apples and onions are then lovingly draped over succulent pork chops, each piece boasting a perfectly pan-seared crust that locks in all the juicy goodness.

To elevate this dish to gourmet status, we finish it off with a luxurious sage-infused butter that melts effortlessly, infusing every bite with a burst of herbaceous flavor.

The best part? This culinary masterpiece requires just one pan, 30 minutes, and 10 simple ingredients, making it the ideal fall weeknight meal that will have your family and friends raving. Truly, this is apple season at its finest, if I do say so myself!

If you prefer to peel your apples, feel free to. You also may not need to finish your pork chops in the oven if they are thin. Be sure to temp the pork chops before putting them in the oven, as to not overcook them if they have already reached temperature. Easily make this dish dairy-free by omitting the finishing sage butter. This dish and the flavor profile of the apples and onions also goes really well with chicken breast if you don’t want pork. Just be sure to temp your chicken to 165°F. Happy fall y’all!

Ingredients:

4 pork chops

1 tsp. salt

½ tsp. pepper

2 Tbsp. olive oil, divided

1 cup onion, yellow or white, thinly sliced

2 cups (2-3) apples of choice, cored, and sliced

4 cloves garlic, minced

2 tsp. thyme, fresh

2 Tbsp. butter

1 Tbsp. sage, fresh and chopped

  Method Of Prep:

  1. Gather and prep ingredients.
  2. Heat a thick bottomed pan or cast iron over medium-high heat.
  3. Pat dry pork chops and season with salt and pepper, set aside.
  4. Add oil to the heated pan. Add in onion and allow to caramelize, stirring occasionally for 8-10 minutes.
  5. Add in apples and cook until softened, 4-5 minutes.
  6. Add in garlic and thyme sauté until fragrant, about a minute.
  7. Remove onion and apple mixture from pan and set aside.
  8. Preheat the oven to 375°F.
  9. Add reserved olive oil to the same pan. Sear pork chops 3-4 minutes per side or until you have a nice crust on each side.
  10. Add apple and onion mixture back in the pan around the pork chops.
  11. Place the pan in the oven and cook until the pork chops reach 145°F, 5-8 minutes.
  12. While pork chops are finishing in the oven, we will make the sage butter. In a small bowl add softened butter and chopped sage.
  13. Stir together, add salt and pepper to taste, set aside.
  14. Remove pork chops from the oven and allow to rest for 5 minutes.
  15. Plate pork chops and top with apple and onion mixture and a dollop of sage butter.
  16. Serve immediately and enjoy!
